Projects Under Review

Proposed power plant projects that the Power Plant Research Program (PPRP) is currently reviewing are listed below. Some of these are new facilities and some are modifications to existing facilities, or license modifications to power plants that are already under construction. Projects are grouped together by county location.

The Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) Case Number refers to the docket number that has been assigned by the PSC. All documents filed with the PSC are available at its website www.psc.state.md.us. Links to specific documents are included in the project descriptions below.


ALLEGANY COUNTY

TRANSMISSION LINE PROJECTS

BGE –Brandon Shores Retirement Mitigation Project (PSC Case 9748): Construction of a group of projects that are needed to maintain the electric system reliability following the retirement of the Brandon Shores Generating Station. The Project extends approximately 2.2 miles from the Maryland-Pennsylvania (MD-PA) State line to the Graceton Substation. From the Graceton substation in Harford County, the Project extends 29 miles to the proposed Batavia Substation in Baltimore County. From the proposed Batavia Substation, the Project is proposed to extend an additional 6 miles to the existing Riverside Substation. Additional project work is proposed to occur on the proposed Solley Road Substation in Anne Arundel County.

Delmarva Power & Light Company – Piney Grove to New Church Rebuild Project (PSC Case 9766): Rebuilding an existing 138kv transmission line to 230kv transmission line standards (but only energized to 138 kV). The line extends approximately 21.8 miles from the Piney Grove Substation in Wicomico County, Maryland to the New Church Substation in Accomack County Virginia. This application entails the 20.7 mile section in Maryland.

PSEG Renewable Transmission LLC – Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project (PSC Case 9773): Construction of a new 500kv single circuit overhead transmission line. The line extends approximately 67 miles across portions of Baltimore, Carroll and Frederick Counties from the existing Doubs Substation to west of the existing Conastone Substation.

Potomac Edison – Carroll-Hunterstown Improvements (PSC Case 9803): Rebuilding an existing single circuit 138 kV transmission line to 230 kV standards, with both a 138 kV circuit and a 230 kV circuit. The line extends approximately 24 miles from the Carroll Substation in Carroll County, Maryland to the Hunterstown Substation in Pennsylvania. Approximately 11.3 miles of the project is located in Carroll County, Maryland.

Potomac Edison – Messick Road-Ridgely Road 138 kV Transmission Line Rebuild (PSC Case 9818: Rebuilding an existing single circuited 138 kV transmission line. The line extends approximately 4 miles from Mineral County, West Virginia to Allegany County, Maryland. Approximately 2.0 miles of the project is in Allegany County.
