Research Vessel Chesapeake

R/V Chesapeake serves as a platform for a variety of aquatic sampling. For more than 20 years, Maryland DNR finfish research teams have trawled from the vessel during winter months to assess fish stock health, understand population trends, and gather data for fisheries management. R/V Chesapeake also supports SCUBA operations in efforts to restore oyster reefs in Maryland and Virginia waters of Chesapeake Bay. In collaboration with Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences, the vessel conducts extensive research on zooplankton in Chesapeake Bay, focusing on their ecology, physiology, role in food webs, and how they are impacted by environmental changes. R/V Chesapeake is beginning and chapter of SCUBA operations in collaboration with United States Navy divers.
