Warm Water Hatcheries

Warm water hatcheries produce dozens of fish species for various projects throughout Maryland. Species include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, several sunfish species, golden shiners, fathead minnows, walleye, yellow perch, American shad, hickory shad, blueback herring, alewife herring, trout and striped bass. These culture efforts support anadromous species restoration, stock enhancement, recreational fishing enhancement and fish culture research.

Cold Water Hatcheries

Cold water hatcheries produce several trout species at facilities in western Maryland for stocking efforts throughout the State. Trout are cultured from eggs and grown in raceways and tanks. Stocked trout create "put and take" recreational fishing opportunities across Maryland and are used to create self-sustaining populations in targeted watersheds.
