Park Quest scene at Rocky Gap State ParkPark Quest begins at the Touch of Nature area of the park.  You are encouraged to bring your own pencils and clipboard to complete the worksheet. Worksheets are available online.

Park Quest at Rocky Gap can be completed any day through October 31. The quest takes you on a 1.5 mile hike on pavement and natural surface trails. The hike is mostly easy with some short, moderate climbs. You should expect to complete the quest in 1-2 hours. 

The quest is not wheelchair or stroller accessible. Leashed pets are permitted.

Along your hike you will stop at five stations. There will be an activity on your worksheet associated with each station. 

If at any time you need a ranger’s assistance, you can call the Duty Ranger cell phone from 8:00 am until sunset, 240-357-4404.

Hiking in Rocky Gap State Park

To be the most successful and minimize risk while hiking at Rocky Gap, we recommend you bring the following items with you:

  • Water! You will not have access to potable water along this hike. Don’t forget to bring enough for your pets too!
  • Bug spray and tick repellant
  • Sunscreen
  • Sturdy hiking footwear
  • Extra pencils, a clipboard and a copy of the worksheet

Central to the park is 243-acre Lake Habeeb, which hosts three swimming beaches and ample fishing and non-motorized boating opportunities. The park also boasts over 10 miles of natural surface trails, spacious picnic areas and a large family friendly campground with a nature center, camp store and Scales & Tales Aviary.

The Rocky Gap Wildlands is an expansive tract of protected land left undeveloped for passive recreation such as hiking, hunting and wildlife viewing. Rocky Gap frequently engages in environmental and nature based programming, including guided hikes, Healthy Parks, Healthy People activities and live animal interpretation. Activity flyers can be made available by request.

Directions:

Take exit 50 off of I-68 toward the State Park and Rocky Gap Casino Resort. You will make the first LEFT turn toward the Casino Resort, however stay straight on this road until it ends at a small parking lot. This is the Touch of Nature area. There are few amenities at this site, including a small picnic area, trail and lake access and a portable restroom facility.
