The Western II Region includes Frederick and Washington counties and the nontidal Potomac River from Great Falls upstream to Cumberland.  Anglers have the opportunity to catch a wide variety of gamefish species from smallmouth bass, walleye, and muskellunge from the upper Potomac River to wild brook and brown trout from small streams in the Catoctin Mountains.  Several small public lakes offer good locations to target largemouth bass and sunfish. Many of these impoundments and stream systems are stocked with hatchery trout as part of the Put-and-Take Program.
