Help with the General Permit for Discharges From Marinas

The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) has prepared a final determination on the renewal of the State/NPDES General Permit for Discharges from Marinas, Including Boat Yards and Yacht Basins.

The renewal permit, recognized as the 16-MA and replacing the former 10-MA, applies to stormwater and wastewater discharges from marinas, boat yards, and yacht basins in the State of Maryland, if the facility performs vessel maintenance activities on site. Here is the link for the Permit 16-MA and all accompanying forms and guides.

The 16-MA general permit becomes effective on August 1, 2017. Permittees who were registered under the 10-MA have until November 1, 2017 to apply for registration under the 16-MA permit.

To obtain coverage under the General Discharge Permit facilities must submit three (3) things to the Maryland Department of the Environment:

  1. An application form called a Notice of Intent (NOI).
  2. A current/updated Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
  3. Appropriate fee.
