ALERT 4-5-2021: – Woodmont Natural Resources Management Area is OPEN to allow for outdoor recreation. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is reaffirming the need for members of the public who engage in outdoor recreation to follow all guidelines in place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The department website includes a guide to social distancing and safe outdoor activity.
The safety and well-being of our staff and visitors to Maryland State Parks is our top priority and we take that responsibility very seriously. With that in mind, all park visitors over the age of five are required to wear face coverings in State Park buildings. Face coverings are also required in outdoor public areas, whenever it is not possible to maintain physical distancing. Staff will be taking extra safety precautions to mitigate the risk of contact with the COVID-19 virus.
This website will be updated as new information becomes available.
An Activity Booklet for the Western Maryland Rail Trail and Woodmont Natural Resources Management Area are now available online. Some of these you can do at home while others you need to come see us at the park. Please print them out before you visit. If you have any questions or would like to share pictures or thoughts on your experience please call the park at (301) 842-2155 or send us an email at email@example.com. We hope you enjoy this Activity Booklet, and hope to see you soon!

Formerly the Woodmont Rod & Gun Club property, the 3,425-acre Woodmont Natural Resource Management Area near Hancock offers opportunities for hiking, hunting, mountain biking, bird watching, and horseback riding. 2,000 acres are open year round and an additional 1,400 acres are open seasonally.
The 18,745 sq. ft. Woodmont Lodge offers a panoramic view of West Virginia and the Potomac River.
Six U.S. Presidents, various senators and congressmen, Babe Ruth, Gene Tunney, Amos & Andy, and Richard Mellon are among the many famous and influential guests of Woodmont Lodge.
Several of the stream valleys on the property are underlain with the rock type which forms shale barrens, a unique habitat often harboring rare plant or insect life.
Several of the stones used in the fireplaces came from historical sites and people. One of the stones came from the stone walls of Fort Frederick while another was a surveyor’s stone used by George Washington.
