  Yes! If a park is not already fully booked or at maximum capacity, same-day reservations can be made online at

• Are there specific entry times for the reservations?
  Some parks use designated time slots to manage traffic flow and guarantee parking availability. For example, at Swallow Falls State Park, you will choose from three advance entry time slots when booking:
  
  • Time Slot A: 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Time Slot B: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Time Slot C: 2:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  Other parks utilize all day passes. You may enter the park any time the park is open on the day of your reservation. These sites include Greenbrier, Gunpowder Falls - Hammerman, Newtowne Neck, North Point, Point Lookout, Sandy Point, Rocks (Kilgore Falls), Rocky Gap, and Swallow Falls State Parks.​
• What is the soft launch period for the new 2026 parks?
  ​For Gunpowder Falls (Hammerman beach area), Rocky Gap, and Swallow Falls, park staff will continue to accept cash entrance fees at the gate on weekends and holidays up until the weekend of June 27. Cash customers will be admitted only if the park has not reached capacity. Advanced reservation holders are always guaranteed entry. After June 27, these parks will transition exclusively to online reservations on weekends and holidays.
• How do I make a reservation?
  Reservations must be made online through the Maryland State Parks Day Use Reservation website.​
  
• Do I need a reservation if I bike or walk into the park?
  No. Reservations are only required for motorized vehicles. Visitors who walk or bike into any state park—even those utilizing the reservation system—can continue to enter for free without a reservation.
  
• Do I need a reservation to launch my boat at Sandy Point State Park?
  The boat ramp at Sandy Point State Park is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All visitors, including those towing boats, must have a day‑use reservation to enter the park on weekends and Maryland state holidays between 7 a.m. and sunset. However, boats may be launched without a reservation after sunset on those days.

• How do I check in when I arrive at the park?
  You’ll receive a QR code with your reservation confirmation via email. Present this QR code on your phone at the park entrance to check in.
• What should I do before leaving home to ensure the park is open?
  Visitors are highly encouraged to check the live Park Status Dashboard online before heading out. This dashboard provides the latest real-time updates on operating statuses and weather-related alerts.
• What happens if I show up at a reservation-only park on a weekend without an advance booking?
  If the park is already fully booked or at capacity, you will unfortunately be turned away and asked to check back when there is availability. If the park is not fully reserved, you can use your smartphone to make a same-day reservation on the spot at parkdayuse.maryland.gov to gain entry.
• What happens if I leave the park and want to come back later that day?
  Day-use permits are valid for a single entry only. If you leave the park, you will not be able to re-enter with the same pass.
• Will I be allowed into the park without a reservation on a weekend or holiday?
  No. Reservations are mandatory on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. No same-day drive-up access will be allowed without a reservation.
• Do campers that have campsite/cabin reservations also need a day-use reservation?
  No, as long as they have a separate reservation for camping.

PAYMENTS AND FEES

• How much does it cost to reserve a day-use pass?
  You will pay the regular park day-use fee at the time of your digital reservation using a credit card, debit card, or other online payment methods. Each reservation transaction includes a 23% service fee (plus credit card payment processing fee), which varies slightly depending on the park’s specific vehicle entry fee. This fee directly helps maintain the traffic technology and online reservation systems.
  ​ Note: For Newtowne Neck State Park, reservations remain free because the park does not charge an entry fee.
• How do the new QR-code payment systems work at parks that don't require advance reservations?
  At these locations - Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area, Elk Neck State Park (Turkey Point Lighthouse area), and Gambrill State Park - you do not need an advance reservation; instead, you will scan the posted signage on-site with your smartphone to pay your day-use fee securely online.
• Do Cunningham Falls or Seneca Creek State Parks require reservations?
  ​No. Both Cunningham Falls and Seneca Creek State Parks have upgraded to modern point-of-sale entrance systems. You do not need to book in advance; you will simply pay standard entry fees electronically at the gate. This technology helps dramatically decrease wait times and traffic at the main gates.
• ​ What payment methods are accepted?
  Credit cards, debit cards, and other online payment methods are accepted at the time of reservation.
• Are refunds available if I cancel my reservation or don’t show up?
  You may edit or cancel your reservation online until 8 a.m. the day before your visit and receive a refund. No refunds are issued for no-shows, cancellations, early departures, or weather.

  Yes. You may edit or cancel your reservation online until 8 a.m. the day before your visit.
• Can I reschedule my day-use reservation for a different date?
  At this time, day-use reservations cannot be rescheduled, transferred, or refunded on the day of the reservation, including due to weather conditions. You may edit or cancel your reservation online until 8 a.m. the day before your visit. Once purchased, all day-use reservations are final beyond the cancellation timeframe. This policy is noted during the reservation process and on your confirmation receipt. We recommend carefully checking your preferred date and reviewing weather forecasts before booking.

DISCOUNTS AND PASSES

• Can I use my Maryland Park Pass or military discount with the new system?
  Annual Park Pass holders, Golden Age Pass holders, veterans, and individuals with disabilities need to make reservations, but will not be charged for entry or making the reservation. The pass holder must be in the vehicle and present their pass at check-in at the park.
• How do I apply my Annual Park Pass, Golden Age Pass, or military discount when making a reservation?
  ​ Select your park and date, and, on the next page, the number of visitors, and then click "Reserve." On the checkout page, above "Amount Due Today", click on "Have a special access pass?", select the pass that you will be using, and click "Apply." This will remove the charge for the reservation. Be sure to bring your pass with you to the park to present at the entrance.
• Do I still need a reservation if I have a Maryland Park Pass?
  Yes. All visitors, including passholders, must make a reservation during required dates. The pass and pass holder must be in the vehicle.

POLICIES AND GOALS

• Is alcohol allowed in the parks?

  3. Staff Allocation: Modernizing entry gates lets the Maryland Park Service reassign staff members away from traffic management and back inside the parks, where they can protect visitor safety and offer educational programs about the park's historical, cultural, and natural features.
