Visitor Center

The Soldiers Delight Visitor Center features an Exhibit Hall that interprets the natural and cultural history of the area. You will also find our Scales & Tales ambassadors, which include turtles and snakes . Depending on the time of year, you may also be able to visit our Aviary. Stop in to talk to a staff member about the rare ecosystem, make some crafts, complete some activities, or attend a program.

Scales & Tales

The Scales & Tales program is a Maryland Park Service staple that only a select few parks have. All animal ambassadors are non-releasable, as deemed by veterinarians, and have been rehabilitated or rehomed to serve in educational outreach programs. Soldiers Delight is home to 11 turtles, 1 snake and 10 raptors, all part of the Scales & Tales program. The aviary is open only in certain times of the year due to the yearly recurrence of Avian Influenza. When open, you may see up to 3 birds on public display. Many of the birds in our facility have been retired from programming or display.
