Maryland Park Service

Spring is in the air…and that means it is time to get out and go camping!

Maryland State Park Campgrounds are now open!

Tent campingAfter a long winter, the spring season marks the re-opening of our campgrounds for the season! Whether you prefer getting away and into the great outdoors with tent camping or enjoy some of the comforts of home in a full-service cabin, there is truly something for everyone in Maryland’s State Parks.

The Maryland Park Service offers more than 2,000 campsites, 120 full-service and camper cabins, and 100 picnic shelters across the State! Looking for something a little less traditional? We also have paddle-in campsites for the kayak enthusiasts at Janes Island and Newtowne Neck State Parks. And there are even a few yurts in the mountains- at both Rocky Gap and Deep Creek Lake State Parks! Spring is in the air…and that means it is time to get out and go camping! Don’t miss out! Be sure to make your camping reservations, up to one year ahead of time, online:

New to camping? We can help!

Camper at Swallow Falls State Park Lisa GiguereAre you ready to try camping? Is this your first outing? We want to eliminate the guesswork and make your visit to Maryland State Parks more enjoyable! Check out our webpage Let's Go Camping - where you will find some basic information to get started. Remember, you are responsible for your own camping gear. Campsites are equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring. Some fire rings have grills for cooking, but it’s a good idea to check ahead or bring a grill grate or camp stove with you. We also recommend you bring a foam sleeping pad or inflatable pad/mattress for your comfort. At most campsites, up to six people are allowed, but confirm this number when making your reservation. For the animal lovers, we have several camping loops where you may bring your dog; make sure you reserve a site classified as “pet friendly”!

If you’re excited and ready to take the first steps, head to our Reservation website at parkreservations.maryland.gov or call 888-432-2267 to speak to a reservation agent.

A YurtOnce you’ve made your reservation, you may want to take a look at our suggested packing list. Two very important things to note: you will need to bring your own container (jug) for getting water to your campsite, and please do not bring firewood from outside the park due to pest management efforts. We hope you’re ready to go camping!

Consider becoming a Camp Host!

Do you love camping and want to volunteer your time in a state park? Then a camp host position might be right for you! Camp Hosts receive a campsite at no charge at the park of their choice in exchange for their service at that park. Many of Maryland’s parks are currently accepting applications for Camp Hosts for the summer season!
