MET Land Trust Assistance
Maryland Environmental Trust’s co-holds a majority of our conservation easements with local non-profit land trusts across our state. We rely on our local partners to connect Maryland Environmental Trust with landowners in their communities who are interested in conserving their land, and to help us permanently uphold the provisions of the easements we hold together.

As part of this collaborative partnership, Maryland Environmental Trust’s Land Trust Assistance Program offers land trusts with cooperative agreements the following technical assistance to support easement and stewardship programs including:
- monitoring resources and trainings
- record keeping guidance
- publications and aids (including our model easement document)
- MET’s online Land Trust Toolbox
- Capacity building mini-grants through the Land Trust Capacity, Excellence and Stewardship Grants
Land trusts and other conservation representatives may sign up to receive informational emails and communications from the
Land Trust Assistance Manager.
MET hosts events for land trust staff, board members and volunteer to learn more about land conservation and MET’s current programming. MET uses the
Standards and Practices, developed by the Land Trust Alliance, the nationally recognized authority on land trust actions.
Events include periodic Land Trust Roundtables and volunteer monitoring trainings. For more information visit the
Holding Conservation Easements jointly with local land trusts as Co-Grantee, allows property owners who donate easements to both trusts to be eligible for all benefits available to Maryland Environmental Trust donors; donors; land trusts would also receive stewardship assistance for these easements; the cooperative agreement necessary for co-holding with Maryland Environmental Trust.

The Land Trust Toolbox is an online directory featuring resources, services and tools from Maryland Environmental Trust State and other State and governmental partners. The toolbox will connect land trusts to resources, tech and data that support daily programming.
The online toolbox is a one-stop-shop of information for new and established land trust representatives. The tool is designed to help Maryland land trusts navigate through the various programs and resources provide by Maryland Environmental Trust and other governmental partners.
