How do I renew my license?
- Complete the
Application to renew a MD Tree Expert License
- Submit the completed application, accompanied by the $20.00 renewal fee and proof of valid insurance, to the address on the application.
- Applications are due January 1 and must be received by January 31st. Individuals that experience a lapse of license by failing to renew their license by the due date following the last year of licensure, and who wish to be licensed, must reapply for licensure. This includes taking and passing the current version of the Tree Expert Licensing Exam.
Effective October 17, 2011, the Tree Expert regulations were revised to increase the license to a two year time frame staggering this change and increasing the fee to reflect the new two year license.
Effective January 1, 2016, the Tree Expert regulations are revised to contain a continuing education requirements in order to renew the license. As the license renewals are on a staggered two year time frame, this means that those that renew December 2017 can obtain the 8 continuing education credits in the two year time frame from January 1, 2016 to December 2017. Those that renew December 2018 can obtain the 8 credits in the two year time frame from January 1, 2017 to December 2018. And repeat for next two year cycle.
Continuing Education Requirements
Effective January 1, 2016, Licensed Tree Experts are required to obtain 8 continuing education credits over the two year period prior to their renewal. This requirement was requested by the tree care industry in order to ensure that all licensed tree experts are current in their knowledge of tree care and are operating in a safe manner.
