Anacostia River’s Reel Invasion, a free-to-enter public outreach and fishing derby event to educate and encourage harvest of invasive fish species introduced into Maryland and D.C. waters that cause ecological harm.

Public outreach activities include:

  1. seeing and learning about aquatic nuisance species,
  2. making fish prints of invasives and other fish,
  3. learning how to get started in fishing,
  4. learning how to fillet blue catfish and northern snakeheads,
  5. touring the Aquatic Resource Education Center at Anacostia Park (DC Department of Energy and Environment)

09:00 am - Making fish prints (all day)
09:30 am - Fishing Demonstration 
10:30 am - Filleting Demonstration 
11:30 am - Filleting Demonstration 
12:00 pm - Tournament weigh-in
12:30 pm - Derby winners

*Availability is limited. Door prizes will be offered throughout the event. Tours of the DC Aquatic Resources Education Center may be provided while at the event.​


How to Register:

Please register for the event by completing ​this Form (one form for each participant), whether fishing or not. Also, please remember to get your free raffle ticket at check-in. Each registered person can receive a raffle ticket for a prize.
