Disposition of Regulation Requests for 2018
PATUXENT RIVER - The Prince George’s County Department of the Environment has requested a review of the speed limit in the Patuxent River near Magruder’s Landing and Clyde Watson Boating Area. The request is to implement a 6 knot All Time Zone for approximately 1 nautical mile; 2/3 nautical mile above and 1/3 nautical mile below Magruder’s Landing to protect a planned shoreline restoration project along approximately 1,700 feet of shoreline. DECISION: NO CHANGE TO CURRENT REGULATION
SOUTH RIVER - The Cape St. John Citizen’s Association has requested a review and revision of the speed zone between the existing Rt. 2 Bridge and Riva Bridge speed zones. The proposed regulation would lower the speed limit in the area from 35 knots day time/20 knots night time to 6 knot All Times. The community reports incidents of shoreline erosion and personal property damage due to excessive vessel wakes. DECISION: NO CHANGE TO CURRENT REGULATION
SOUTH RIVER - The Edgewater Beach Community Association has requested a review and revision of the speed zone between the existing Rt. 2 Bridge and Riva Bridge speed zones. The specific area would begin at the NW end of the Rt. 2 Bridge zone and end just past day-marker #17. The proposed regulation would lower the speed limit in the area from 35 knots day time/20 knots night time to 6 knot All Times. The community reports incidents of shoreline erosion and personal property damage due to excessive vessel wakes as well as personal injury near misses. DECISION: NO CHANGE TO CURRENT REGULATION
