In observance of America’s 250th anniversary, we’re looking back at our state’s contributions to American history through the eyes and experiences of fellow Marylanders. This commemoration is for every one of us, from the Chesapeake Bay to the mountain peaks out west. Attend events, get involved, give back, and gain perspective.
The events below are DNR sponsored events scheduled throughout the year.

Fort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair

Step into the 1700s at Fort Frederick State Park’s annual Market Fair! This event sponsored by the Friends of Fort Frederick State Park features artisans, craftspeople, and sutlers from across the country. Guests may explore the 18th century encampment in modern clothes or in period-specific attire. Hours are 9 AM to 5 PM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and 9 AM to 3 PM on Sunday, rain, or shine. Admission Rates: $10 for adults, $5 for children aged 6 to 12 and 5 and under are free.

Since 2020, Pollinator Festival has welcomed the spring/summer season each April (near Earth Day) in our marina pollinator garden. This year, we’re adding a patriotic twist by celebrating America’s birthday and the story of our National Flower! Join us for a fun filled day of local vendors, games, and crafts. We hope to see you there!

Healthy Parks Healthy People

Healthy Parks, Healthy People is a nationwide program, based in the National Park Service. They work with state parks, local parks, and other organizations to promote health and happiness. The goal of the program as a whole is to encourage healthy lifestyle changes as well as to nurture personal relationships with nature and the outdoors. Join Assateague State Park staff at the Assateague State Park marina for a fun day of recreational activities. Celebrate the U.S.' 250th birthday by participating in a U.S. trivia trail walk and colonial yard games!

...and zeal for liberty... 4th of July Program
Fort Frederick State Park, Big Pool
It’s Independence Day! This year the United States of America turns 250 years old! Join our interpretive staff and volunteers as they portray the men and women of the American Revolution and learn about the role the fort played during the war. This program includes musket firing demonstrations as well as military and children's drill (1776).

Maryland State Fair

Featuring live thoroughbred horse racing, livestock exhibits, 4-H competitions, concerts, carnival rides, and local food. Visit the Maryland Department of Natual Resourses at the Mosner Building to see historical and cultural displays. It' also has AC and bathrooms!

Miles for Maryland
All Maryland State Parks
To commemorate the MARYLAND 250, Maryland State Parks is challenging you to hike 250 miles in State Parks this year! Complete the “Miles for Maryland” Trail Challenge as either an individual or as a team. The program kicks off on January 1st with First Day Hikes across Maryland State Parks. Register online, explore Maryland’s State Parks’ trails, track your miles, and earn great prizes!

Liberty Tree Planting
Locations to be Announced
The Maryland Liberty Tree Project is a statewide initiative to plant genetically identical descendants of the original historic Annapolis Liberty Tree (a 400-year-old tulip poplar) in each of Maryland's 23 counties and Baltimore City. This project commemorates the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, with planting scheduled to be completed by 2026/2027.
