| Size:
3 - 6½ in; Record - 8⅛ in.
| Appearance:- Red, reddish brown to chocolate back and sides with few round, well-separated black spots extending to sides.
- The diagnostic feature is the brown eyes (compared to yellow in Northern Red Salamander).

- Muddy areas of springs, and seeps along small streams.
