HabiChat - Fall 2024

HabiChat Fall 2024 Edition

Welcome back to HabiChat!

A chill is in the air and fall is here, Habichatters!

Presented for your autumnal perusal is a mildly spooky collection, with the hope that these less-commonly highlighted plants and animals will put you in the mood for the season. Please enjoy a Native Plant Profile of the ghost flower in all its unusual glory, as well as a Native Animal Profile about the Eastern whip-poor-will. In more traditional fall fair, we have also included an evaluation of several spider myths and misconceptions and an article about how to tread lightly while exploring the autumn forest. Please join me in welcoming our newest HabiChat naturalist and author, Katy Gorsuch, who provided insights on spiders, ghost flower and the Eastern whip-poor-will for this issue.
