The range may close without advance notice for law enforcement or hunter safety training. Call the Green Ridge State Forest office before visiting: 301-287-3124.
Permits are available at Green Ridge State Forest Headquarters, located at I-68 Exit 64. If the office is closed, self-registration is available at the outdoor kiosk. The range is unsupervised except during periods of heavy use.

Permits and Fees
A permit is required before using the range. Annual permits are valid one year from date of purchase. Visitors ages 16–64 pay $5.00 per day or $25.00 for an annual permit. Visitors under 16 or 65 and older pay $2.50 per day or $10.00 for an annual permit. A family annual pass is $50.00.
Range Rules
- Use firing benches only. One shooter per bench.
- No loaded weapons outside the firing line.
- Do not fire when anyone is downrange. Confirm the range is clear before firing.
- Paper targets only. Target center must be at least 4 feet above ground.
- No automatic weapons.
- Persons under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
- No drugs or alcoholic beverages.
- No pets. No vehicles on the range area.
- Remove all targets, trash, and spent ammunition when you leave.
DNR may revoke a permit for any range violation or irresponsible behavior. Report problems to DNR Police (24 hours): 1-800-628-9944.
Firearms must be legal to possess and transport in Maryland.
