Maryland Department of Natural Resources has invited striped bass fishery stakeholders from all sectors to serve on a Joint Striped Bass Committee. The group will advise the department and Maryland's representatives on the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) regarding possible management actions under consideration.

Meetings of the Joint Striped Bass Committee will be open to the public. Meeting details will be posted on the Fishing and Boating Calendar.

The purpose of this committee is to work on developing a comprehensive management approach for the 2026 fishing year and beyond that addresses the ASMFC's goal to rebuild the striped bass population by 2029. 

This committee will be asked to recommend strategies to control fishing effort and fishing mortality through a combination of closed seasons, catch and release, and harvest opportunities throughout the year. 

Commercial management recommendations will be focused on quota management (reductions/liberalizations) along with possible modifications to the current seasons to protect the spawning stock and reduce bycatch mortality in the commercial fishery. 

The Commission’s Draft Addendum III will be the focus of this committee in the short term, however, once established, this committee could be used to discuss other, long term, issues that arise after Addendum III is approved and implemented by the States.
