DNR Learning Center - Moodle - Seasonal Staff and Volunteers Only

The DNR Learning Center (Moodle) is the Learning Management System (LMS) for seasonal employees and volunteers. This site is available for individual park use, as well as for all current seasonal employees and volunteers. Prior to accessing the site you must provide the Maryland Park Service Training Division with your first and last name, and an e-mail address.

Courses are assigned in this system. You may not browse and sign up for courses directly at this time. Talk to your supervisor if you would like to complete your training using our self-paced online courses. Once you have been assigned training you will receive an e-mail with your log-in credentials. The learning system may be accessed from any computer with Internet access. You may also access the system from the Moodle Mobile App. However, there are some features in our classes that do not run will on the App.

Out-Service Training - Primarily Classified Staff with Approval

Any training not sponsored by the Maryland Park Service is considered to be Out-of-Service Training. This training is either funded by your home park or the Maryland Park Service Training Division. It takes two weeks to process an out-service training request at this time, so please plan ahead and get your requests in early.

To submit an out-service training request:

  1. Identify the training you would like to take, and discuss it with your immediate supervisor. If you have your supervisor's support for the training complete the out-service training paperwork.
  2. The out-service training paperwork consists of two forms. Please make sure you complete both forms.
  3. Once you have completed the paperwork, obtain your park manager's signature on both forms.
  4. Mail, e-mail or fax both forms and any supporting documents that describe the training to Barb Knisely - Barbara.Knisely@maryland.gov or fax to: 410-260-8191.
  5. If you have not received a reply back within two weeks of paperwork submission, please contact the training division for the status of your request.
  6. Once approved you will be sent copies of the signed forms. Hold onto these forms, as they must be attached with any payment receipts associated with this training.
  7. You may register for the training once you receive the completed forms. The Training Division does not handle your course registration. (If time is of a concern, contact the Training Division for verbal approval, after your forms have been submitted.).
  8. If you are attending training that does not have any costs associated with it, other than your time and travel in a state vehicle, then you must still complete the paperwork. Once you have your manager's signature you may go ahead and register for the training. The paperwork should still be sent to Barb Knisely for completion to document your approved time and use of a state vehicle to attend this training.
  9. Please note - training that involves out-of-state travel with an overnight stay must also have approval from your regional manager, prior to submitting your paperwork for approval. Please discuss this type of training with your supervisor and manager to obtain approval to submit the paperwork.
  10. In addition, if the training requires you to travel out-of-state with an overnight stay, you must also submit the out-of-state travel form.
  11. Training that is held out of state, where you will not be spending the night, does not require the out-of-state travel form.
