The Savage River Reservoir, a 230 acre reservoir, is available for boating in the Savage River State Forest. Only kayaks, canoes, and small paddle boats/electric powered boats are permitted on the reservoir. There is no swimming permitted in the reservoir. Boats with a motor must be titled and registered by the DNR Licensing Office (see the DNR Licensing Site for more information).

Canoeing

As stated above, canoeing is permitted on the Savage River Reservoir. Below the breast of the Savage River Dam is referred to as the “Whitewater Area”. Because the river is controlled by a dam release, numerous times throughout the year, whitewater enthusiasts can experience a Class V whitewater adventure. These dates are posted on various websites as well as at the Savage River State Forest Headquarters.
