The Maryland Water Monitoring Council will hold its 24th Annual Conference at the Maritime Conference Center, North Linthicum, Maryland, on Friday, December 7, 2018.
Registration will begin at 7:30 AM and the conference will adjourn at 4:30 PM. The conference will include a plenary session, several concurrent breakout sessions, posters, exhibitor tables, and, of course, the famous Maritime Institute all-you-can-eat buffet lunch. You’ll also have plenty of time to network and catch up with old friends and colleagues during breaks and at the post-meeting social. Look below for information from past conferences.
The theme of the 2018 MWMC conference is Science, Stewardship, and
Citizen Involvement – Working Together for Clean Water. Concurrent sessions will include The Journey from Source to Tap – Forests and Water Quality, The Year of the Anacostia, Fish Passage, Chesapeake Bay SAV and the Role of Citizen Scientists, Environmental Reporting, From Restoration to Recovery – Stream Restoration Monitoring, Pipe Dreams – Managing Urban Sewage, and Citizen Scientists Get the Job Done! The morning plenary session will feature presentations by Will Baker, Chesapeake Bay Foundation President, and Dominique Lueckenhoff, Senior Advisor to the Regional Administrator, US EPA Region III.

The 7th MWMC Student Poster Award will be offered this year and is open to junior high, high school and college undergraduate students. This year, we will present the 12th Annual Carl S. Weber Award presented to an individual (or individuals) involved in water monitoring in Maryland. In addition to the traditional award, the MWMC will again offer the Above and Beyond Award to recognize contributions of an up-and-coming member of Maryland’s environmental community who has volunteered time and energy toward the monitoring of Maryland’s waters and has made a significant contribution to increasing
watershed awareness, advocacy, education, and stewardship. Ideal candidates
will share the spirit, vision and leadership exemplified by Dr. Carl Weber.

A student-professional networking session will begin with a panel of environmental and water quality professionals from industry (consulting and technical), government, and education discussing their career paths and advice. Students will have opportunities to ask the panel questions about careers in water quality and environmental fields.
