Rec Trek and Welcome Party (Tuesday)
In addition to engaging keynote speakers and sessions, the Outdoor Rec Summit offers ample opportunities for attendees to get outside and have some fun! Read on for descriptions of each activity below.
Outdoor Rec Trek (Tuesday, October 28, 12:30-4 PM)
The summit kicks off on Tuesday, October 28th, with the Outdoor Rec Trek - a team-based scavenger hunt that transforms downtown Baltimore into a living case study of urban outdoor recreation. It’s part competition (with prizes!), part exploration, and fully designed to spark ideas for how outdoor spaces can inspire connection, movement, and play in an urban setting.
The Rec Trek is included with summit registration. Please complete this RSVP form to help us get a team count for the Outdoor Rec Trek.
Welcome Party at the Baltimore Peninsula (Tuesday, October 28, 4-7 PM)
The Rec Trek is followed by a Welcome Party at Baltimore Peninsula, which includes live music, games, and activities (including fishing, a rock wall, corn hole, and more!), free snacks and drinks, food trucks (for purchase), and lots of great networking opportunities!
If you plan to attend the Welcome Party, please complete this RSVP form (same form as the Rec Trek) so that we have an accurate headcount.
For those participating in the Rec Trek, transportation is provided to the Welcome Party and back to Royal Sonesta. For those not participating in the Rec Trek or choosing to drive themselves, please navigate to 321 East Cromwell St., Baltimore, MD 21230. You can also take the FREE Charm City Circulator (Cherry Line) from the Inner Harbor to the Baltimore Peninsula. The party will be on the pier (see map below).
General attendees should park in the metered spaces on street parking.

Outdoor Excursions (Thursday)
Outdoor Excursions (Thursday, October 30)
Thanks to generous support from our partners, we are offering conference attendees the chance to sign up for additional outdoor excursions in and around Baltimore!

Excursions:
- Sunrise Paint & Sip at the Royal Sonesta - 7:00-8:00 AM
Join us for a relaxed morning Sip & Paint overlooking the Inner Harbor. Enjoy a warm cup of coffee as the sun rises over the city skyline, and paint your own take on the urban landscape with guidance from local artists. Whether you're an experienced painter or just trying it for fun, this excursion is a great way to ease into the day. All supplies are provided. $15.00 [Link to Register]
- Bird Banding at Masonville Cove - 9:00-10:30 AM*
Take a field trip to Masonville Cove, located on Baltimore's working waterfront, to experience bird banding and learn how the site has been transformed from a polluted industrial site into a thriving urban wildlife refuge co-created with the community. This interactive workshop explores opportunities and challenges associated with providing access to nature for diverse urban communities, and how partnerships, co-design, and engagement have led to the nation’s first Urban Wildlife Refuge Partnership and only urban Bird Banding Station. Participants will experience a live bird-banding session and dive into co-design strategies that tackle barriers like transportation, awareness, and exclusion. Presenters will share lessons learned and discuss how this model can inform equitable outdoor access across Maryland and the country. $15.00 [Link to Register]
*Note: participants who sign up for this field trip will be traveling off-site on Thursday morning and will miss the first two breakout sessions at the Royal Sonesta that day.
- Hart-Miller Island State Park Boat Tour - 1:00-5:30 PM
Join the Maryland Park Service and Maryland Environmental Service for a guided tour of Hart-Miller Island, a unique and ecologically rich site accessible only by boat.
