ALERT - Effective September 8, 2026,
Big Run Road will be CLOSED 1,000 FEET NORTH OF THE INTERSECTION WITH SAVAGE RIVER ROAD while crews complete the replacement of the existing culvert with a new bridge. The closure is expected to remain in effect through December, 2026.
This closure is necessary to facilitate the safe installation of a new bridge structure on the lower end of Big Run Road. The Garrett County Roads Department and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources appreciate the patience and cooperation of all residents, commuters, and visitors during this important infrastructure improvement project.
All campsites on Big Run Road, including Campsites 123-144, Campsites 60-75, the Creekside Group Campsite, and the Monroe Run Group Campsite*, will be accessible only by following New Germany Road to Big Run Road. There will be no access to Big Run Road from Savage River Road.
Campsites 78-89 and the Big Run Pavilion will be accessible only from Savage River Road. There will be no access to Savage River Road from Big Run Road.
*The Monroe Run Group Campsite will not have electric service during the construction period.

ALL CAMPSITES AT BIG RUN STATE PARK WILL BE AVAILABLE BY RESERVATION. TO BOOK A SITE, CALL 1-888-432-CAMP OR VISIT parkreservations.maryland.gov.
Tags indicating which sites are reserved will be updated by 1 p.m. daily.
Same-day reservations will not be permitted by phone or online.
Campers without a reservation will be permitted to pay upon arrival for campsites marked "AVAILABLE" for one night only.
