Location
The Schaeffer Farm Tract is located in Seneca Creek State Park and is bordered by Schaeffer Road, Black Rock Road, Little Seneca Creek and Seneca Creek.
Seasons Open
The Schaeffer Farm Tract is open for white-tailed deer hunting only (no other game) during the following seasons:
- White tailed deer, Firearms: November 30–December 14, 2024 and January 10–11, 2025
- White tailed deer, Muzzleoader: December 21, 2024–January 4, 2025
- White tailed deer, Archery: December 16-20, 2024, January 6–9, 2025, and January 13–31, 2025.
Hunting Devices Allowed
Firearms season: Shotgun or straight-walled cartridge rifle.
Archery and Muzzleloader: weapons conforming to the rules published in the Maryland Guide to Hunting and Trapping
Permits
A Free Public Hunting Permit is required for this area and may be obtained online through your COMPASS account or in person at any license vendor. Information concerning the permit is in the hunting guide as well as online.

- Reservations for the opening day of deer firearms season are by lottery. See the packet that accompanied your Central Region Permit for applications and instructions.
- After the opening day of deer firearms season a daily reservation is required. Reservations are made through the Gwynnbrook Wildlife Office at 410-356-9272.
