Backyard Fishing Program

The Backyard Fishing Program supports Governor Hogan’s Project Green Classroom Initiative to promote outdoor activities and environmental education through schools, in communities, and on public lands.

Backyard Fishing Areas are selected based on safety and accessibility in urban communities.

The following locations are designated Backyard Fishing Areas:

  • Boonsboro Community Pond, Washington County (Youth, Senior or Blind fishing only)Warfield Park Pond
  • Parkview Pond, Garrett County (Youth or Blind fishing only)
  • Warfield’s Park Pond, Howard County

The department will host events at selected areas to teach youth how to fish. Events will cover topics such as knot tying, fish identification, casting techniques as well as tackle and bait selection.  These areas will be stocked with hybrid sunfish as needed.
