Maryland Amphibian & Reptile Atlas Project
Main_Content
Background:
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, working jointly with the Maryland Natural History Society, has concluded a 5-year effort to document the distribution of all species of reptiles and amphibians in Maryland. Known as the Maryland Amphibian and Reptile Atlas, or MARA, this project establishes systematic baseline documentation that will support future research, conservation and protection efforts.
Surveys were based upon a statewide grid system using U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 7.5 minute quadrangle maps, each divided into six blocks approximately 10 square miles each.
