Swallow Falls State Park

Attention: Swallow Falls Entrance Road Update 5/23/2024:
A temporary one-lane bridge has been placed on the entrance road of Swallow Falls State Park. All traffic exiting the park must yield to traffic entering the park. Please be patient and follow all posted signage. If the line of traffic extends to the main road, do not block the road.​

CLOSURE NOTICE (UPDATED 10/25/24): Alert:
The paving project has been rescheduled. Beginning September 2, 2025 through July 31, 2026 contractors will be paving and replacing culverts throughout Swallow Falls State Park. The campground and the shelter will be closed during this time. Until we receive a more detailed timeline for construction, we will not be accepting reservations during these dates. Guests are encouraged to check https://parkreservations.maryland.gov/​ for updates. We apologize for the inconvenience.

​Camping

Sixty-five (65) wooded campsites with a fire ring, picnic table, and lantern post on a stabilized pad. All camp sites are located near modern bath houses with hot and cold water. Three of the sites are full hook-up which includes electric, water and sewer (40, 42 & 42A) and three sites have water and electric (19, 21, 23). Camping reservations are strongly recommended Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day by calling 1-888-432-2267 or online at parkreservations.maryland.gov.

​All campsites in the Garrett Loop can be reserved from the 1st weekend in April until the 1st weekend in December. All campsites in the Tolliver Loop can be reserved from the Friday before Memorial Day until Labor Day.​

Camper Cabins

There are also three camper cabins which include electric heat, microwave, small folding table and chairs, mini fridge, one double bed, and a bunk bed. Reservations are required for all three camper cabins from the 1st weekend in April until the 1st weekend in December. Reservations can be made by calling 1-888-432-2267 or online at parkreservations.maryland.gov

Youth Group Camping

Three youth group sites are available during the camping season. A valid Maryland DNR Youth Group Pass is required to reserve a Youth Group Camping Area. Nightly service charges apply. For more information regarding a Youth Group Pass, call 1-410-260-8186 or download an application on-line.

Cell Phone Service

Please DO NOT rely on cell phones for communication while in the park. Many phones and carriers do not get service.

Campground Rules

  • There is a two night minimum stay for weekends and a three night minimum stay for holiday weekends.
  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
  • Campsite occupancy is limited to a maximum of six people, at least one of which must be 18 years of age or older.
  • The number of tents/trailers permitted on each site depends on the size of the campsite pad. All camping equipment must remain on the campsite pad.
  • Each campsite is limited to no more than two vehicles. Overflow parking is available nearby. All vehicles must remain on the paved or gravel surface.
  • Check-in is 3 p.m. Check-in must be done before 10 p.m. Check-out is 12 p.m.
  • Quiet hours are enforced between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. Only self-contained generators are allowed and may not be operated during quiet hours. Generators may not be operated at a noise level disturbing others. Park Staff reserves the right to request a generator be turned off due to disturbing noise level.
  • Visitors must pay the day use entrance service charge and vacate the campground by 10 p.m.
  • Campfires are permitted in the fire ring only. Please do not leave fires unattended. Firewood is sold at the park. Wood may not be removed from the sensitive management area.
  • Pets are permitted and must remain on a leash and under control at all times. They are not permitted in the day use area or on the trails between the Saturday before Memorial Day and Labor Day.
