Volunteers
Message from Park Manager, Donnie Oates
Greetings and thank you for checking out the volunteer opportunities at Wolf Den Run State Park. In this day of ever shrinking park budgets and staff, our volunteers have become a vital part of our park operation.
Volunteer hours are flexible to fit your schedule, and open for everyone, whether you can only donate an hour or two here and there, or are able to commit to a regular schedule of volunteerism. If one of the opportunities listed below sounds interesting to you, or if you have something else to offer, please contact us at the park and we will gladly meet with you to discuss the possibility of you becoming one of our volunteers. Our goal is to find the right fit for you so that your volunteering will be as rewarding for you as it is for us. We hope to hear from you soon.
Trail/ Roadside Clean Up
Volunteers are asked to help with trial mapping/marking, boundary work, trail debris/refuse and general trail cleanup/ building activities. Specific work includes, clearing old dump sites, building water bars, repairing trails damaged by storms or usage, and otherwise help to keep our network of trails fun and sustainable. You will work with a park employees and necessary tools and equipment will be provided.
A strong back, and the ability to work outside in all-weather on rugged terrain, is a must. Familiarity with hand and/or power tools, and/or some experience with trail work, is a bonus but not required. Wear weather-appropriate clothing that can get dirty/muddy, and sturdy work or hiking boots; bring water bottle, work gloves, lunch, as well as sunscreen, bug repellent and rain protection as needed. This is an occasional opportunity and days and times will vary.
Volunteer Rangers
Volunteer Rangers will be working with a park employee or on their own making sure the park is operating smoothly and safely. Some duties include, meeting and greeting visitors, checking trails, picking up trash, parking vehicles, general maintenance and landscape work. This is an ongoing opportunity with a prerequisite of 80 volunteer hours prior to consideration and interview.
If you are interested in any of the volunteer opportunities listed above,
