Quest Information
Park Quest 2021 at Gambrill State Park is available every day from 8 a.m until sunset. It is a self-guided activity that will begin at the Nature Center in the High Knob Area (8448 High Knob Road, Frederick, MD 21702). Questers will learn about raptor migration by spinning a wheel and taking the course the wheel directs you to.
Questers should allow 2 hours to complete the activity with up to 3 miles of hiking on moderate terrain. This Quest is not accessible for strollers or wheelchairs. Pets are permitted but must be on a leash.
Park Information
Gambrill State Park is a small mountainous park on the ridge of Catoctin Mountains in Frederick, MD. The most popular feature of Gambrill SP are the 16 miles of trails and the scenic overlooks in the High Knob Area. While the park features a Nature Center, it is only open when staffing levels permit.
Additionally, the park features one of the only license-free fishing ponds in Maryland in the Rock Run Area. This area also includes a small 34 site campground and a picnic area.

Driving Instructions:
Gambrill State Park is located approximately 51 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., and 53 miles west of Baltimore on Catoctin Mountain. From U.S. 70, exit onto U.S. Route 40 at Frederick. Travel approximately six miles. Turn right onto Gambrill Park Road and follow it approximately 1.5 miles to the High Knob Area entrance. The Nature Center is the first building on the right hand side of the road. Park Quest begins on the access trail behind the Center.
