The Office of Outdoor Recreation was established to support and enhance outdoor recreation opportunities across the state.
We are guided by the “five Es”: Environmental conservation & stewardship, Education & workforce development, Economic development, Exercise health & wellness and Equity, access & inclusion .
Our Mission:
The Maryland Office of Outdoor Recreation strives to make outdoor recreation spaces more welcoming and inclusive, expand access to outdoor recreation opportunities, and amplify the good work that is being done in the field.
The inaugural Outdoor Recreation Summit was a huge success! Over 150 recreation enthusiasts learned, grew and networked together at Rocky Gap Resort in beautiful Allegany County. It was a great opportunity to build community within Maryland's Outdoor Recreation! Save the date for 2025 - October in central Maryland.
Fly Fishing for University Students
In April and May of 2024 we partnered with Frostburg University, Garrett College, Towson University, and Salisbury University to connect their students with fly fishing guides around the state and recreate on state lands. Check out a
highlight of the experience at the Gunpowder River!
Sharing Our Message: Get Outdoors
We work to get people recreating outdoors and have shared this message on Baltimore’s CBS news station. Check out the latest clip

Thanks for participating in the Summer 2024 Ice Cream Hike challenge! Keep an eye out for the 2025 version coming soon. In the meantime, get outdoors and explore the dairies and parks throughout Maryland!
