Deputy Secretary
Dave Goshorn is a lifelong Marylander who grew up hiking and camping throughout the
state, during which he developed a deep interest in Maryland’s natural environment and
the science of protecting and restoring it.
Goshorn joined DNR in 1992 as a member of the Fisheries Service Striped Bass
Program. Since then, he has held several positions in the Resource Assessment
Service, including Director, Director of the agency’s Office for a Sustainable Future,
Assistant Secretary of Aquatic Resources, Senior Bay Restoration Coordinator, and
most recently was appointed Deputy Secretary in 2023.
Goshorn received his Bachelors degree in Biology from Bucknell University, his Ph.D in
Marine Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Delaware, and served as a
postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Georgia Marine Institute on Sapelo
Island for three years before coming to DNR. He lives in Arnold Md and has three
grown sons.
