The Wild Turkey Advisory Committee is comprised of ten individuals, appointed by the Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), who have an interest in the wild turkey in Maryland. These individuals are charged with providing advice to DNR - Wildlife and Heritage Service regarding wild turkey management in Maryland. The Committee meets twice each year and discusses current and pertinent wild turkey management issues. The committee was originally founded in the late 1970's after wild turkey populations dropped significantly in Western Maryland.

This Committee has been instrumental in helping to forge the successful turkey trap and transplant program. They have also been involved with setting hunting season frameworks and are currently developing a booklet that discusses the wild turkey in Maryland.
