Attention Sika Deer Hunters
Please note that there is a sika deer study going on in Dorchester County run by
University of Delaware and Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Deer
involved in the study are marked with white ear tags and metal ear tags in each
ear. Some deer are also equipped with radio tracking collars. These deer can
be harvested in accordance with Maryland State hunting regulations. Any deer
harvested can be kept by the hunter.
We would like to know about the harvest of
any marked sika deer involved in this study. If a collared animal is harvested
we will need to collect information on the animal (especially the location of
the harvest) and retrieve the collar. These animals are located
throughout the county on both public and private lands.

Information gathered from this study will aid in a better understanding of the
survival of sika deer. Other aspects of the study include movement of males and
habitat use. All information will be published in 2010 and will aid the
Department of Natural Resources in better managing the sika deer population for
sustainable hunting.
Thank you for your help.
