The reports included in this content area identify those native Maryland plants that are among the rarest and most in need of conservation efforts as elements of our State's natural diversity. It includes species occurring in Maryland that are listed or candidates for listing on the Federal list of Endangered Species list, and additional species that are considered rare by the Maryland Wildlife and Heritage Service.

Compiled by Wildlife and Heritage Service staff, these lists of rare species is a result of 18 years of data gathering from numerous sources, such as museums and private collections, scientific literature, unpublished documents, reports from biologists and amateur naturalists.
