Twelve participants joined the staff of the BOW program
for a day of fun on Maryland’s eastern shore at Wye
Island NRMA. The day began with basic kayaking
instruction including paddling techniques and safety.
After completing the land instruction, the participants
were taken to the water for a guided kayaking trip. They
set out paddling on the Wye East River, Granary Creek
and Dividing Creek along the scenic Wye Island and were
able to enjoy plenty of wildlife viewing opportunities
along the way.
After completing the guided kayaking tour the
participants learned various crabbing techniques and
were able to catch a few crabs!! They then took an
active role in preparing lunch which consisted of crabs
and a sampling of food prepared over the fire- including
cream of crab soup, corn bread, pineapple upside-down
cake and stew. A fine end to a great day! A special
thanks to all who helped with the days events. For
