Restoration and Protection

Everything we do on the land affects the quality and condition of our streams. In order to restore and protect streams, all of the contributing watershed, or land draining to the stream, must be considered. There are many different approaches to watershed evaluation and planning depending on the available information, the size of the watershed, the land use, and the type of issues and goals.

In general, the process involves the collection of information and data, the evaluation of that information, the identification of issues, the formulation of goals, the prioritization of restoration and protection projects, and the identification of technical and financial resources needed to meet the goals. Through watershed planning, resources can be used most efficiently and effectively to restore and protect stream quality and habitat.
