Maryland Stream Waders
Each year, we ask Stream Waders Volunteers to give us their perspective on the Program and their stream sampling experience. Here are a few of their comments: “Once again, you’ve put together a great volunteer program. I think it helps people understand watersheds much more. The scheduling and sub-watershed breakdown works well…” |

“…the experience was positive and I look forward to doing it next year.” “Together with my colleagues, I learned a great deal about the watershed. The experience was really valuable, educational, and fun - and even more work than I imagined. Thanks for a great experience.”
“I really enjoyed doing the stream survey. I met new people who were great to work with. I look forward to doing it again.” “…this was a wonderful way for us to connect to local waterways and to determine the flow of water to the Bay.” “The training session was very well done, and the field demonstration was an excellent idea. I thought (the trainers) did a great job.” “Good program!” “I really enjoyed the educational day and really learned a lot.”
“…the training session was interesting and extremely helpful when actually sampling sites. The field training was especially useful! The Stream Waders Program is a great way to become involved with the environment and learn about the streams and wildlife in Maryland. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.” “The stream monitoring manual was excellent.” “Very interesting activity and beautiful streams.” “The program was well conceived and organized.” “It was a lot of fun to see what was in the streams. It would be a great educational tool to get individual landowners out and show them what is in their streams.” “I greatly enjoyed doing Stream Waders. I did it with my environmental science classmates and we had so much fun! I learned a lot and it was good experience for me as an Environmental Science major.” “I enjoyed participating in this project and found it to be very interesting. My teenage son and his friend also helped and were also very interested and amazed at the variety of aquatic life in even the smallest of streams. We hope to participate in future surveys.” “(The training session) and demonstrations were very clear to follow and had lots of great information. Overall (the training session) went smooth and terrific!” “The training facility field station was great! The training/instruction materials were very thorough.”

Otherwise, it was a great experience. It’s good to participate in a program that is beneficial to you (Maryland Department of Natural Resources) as well as us (local government and citizens). This is a win-win for everyone! Thanks for the opportunities and support.” “A terrific way to see the watershed and subwatershed. I did enjoy it tremendously!” “Overall (the program) was an enjoyable and learning experience! Loved being out in the field.” “Stream Waders is a great program to whet people’s desire and appetite for continued, more in depth stream monitoring.” “I enjoyed participating in the program and look forward to doing it again next year.” “The streams were so beautiful - can only hope they can be preserved or even brought back.” “The surveying was very interesting, and it was nice to get out and see some of the streams!” “I enjoyed the work.
