Visioning & Moving Forward
Dear Colleagues:
Action-oriented… innovative… a green workplace… more collaborative…. a haven for creativity… better pay… free lattes… how would you define the ideal DNR?
That was one of the questions posed to DNR’s leadership team yesterday as we began a series of facilitated sessions to help us transform our agency into a working model for sustainability -- one that each of us will be proud to own and one that our partners, customers, stakeholders and legislators passionately support.
In addition to brainstorming a vision of the ideal, the team analyzed our agency’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, with specific attention to what it will take to successfully lead Governor O’Malley’s call to create a sustainable Maryland. Your unit directors left today’s exercise with a homework assignment: To share the ideas we discussed with you and bring your feedback to our next session in September.
In the meantime, I just wanted each of you to know that as summer winds down, we are gearing up. Our challenges are great but our opportunities are greater. As dictated by our charge, as manifested in the dedication, talent and expertise of our workforce, and as necessitated by the state of our global environment, we are the agency capable of leading the statewide effort to a achieve a sustainable future, and to ultimately make Maryland our nation’s most livable state.
We have the opportunity – and the direction from our Governor -- to create our vision, to own it and to achieve it.
Thank you..John
