Annual Park Cleanup

Volunteers prepare the park for the summer season -- clean campgrounds, haul away leaves and pick up branches. Approximately 85-100 volunteers participate, including local Boy and Girl Scout troops.

Fishing Rodeo

Volunteers assist with this mid-June event and provide assistance to juvenile fishermen, up to age 15. Volunteers also assist with the distribution of refreshments and gifts to participants.

Volunteer Ranger

Assist the park rangers with day to day operations, special events, park maintenance and programs. Minimum of 100 hours per year required for this program. Training and a uniform are provided.

Camp Host

Volunteers act as host at New Germany's campground. Volunteers assist campers with directions to local stores, laundry facilities, restaurants and other area amenities, and are responsible for cleaning campsites as needed. Camping fees are waived in exchange for 3 to 4 hours of work each day.

Ski Host

Volunteers patrol cross-country ski trails, provide personnel with trail conditions, and provide minor maintenance. Volunteers assist rangers in searches for lost or overdue skiers, remove injured skiers from trails, and do patrol checks at the end of the day to insure all trail users are off the trails.

Nature Center Host

Conduct programs at Nature Center about bees, birds, bats, raptors, stars, reptiles, mushrooms and fungi, bears and other wildlife. Sponsor instructional/educational classes, including pottery, painting, plaster casting, cooking, and musical programs.

Scouts

Scouts wishing to attain Eagle Scout rating are provided projects to complete.

Friends of New Germany Volunteers

Volunteers assist the park staff throughout the year in discrete activities, as needed. Friends provide baked goods for fundraising, and assist with cleanup, repairs and other services.

Service Learning

Work alongside students from local schools, who are required to perform volunteer service in order to graduate, to distribute brochures to campers and cabins guests, and assist patrons at the boat rental facility.
