Tuckahoe Creek, a quiet country stream bordered for most of its length by wooded marshlands, runs through the length of the park. A 60-acre lake offers boating and fishing. The park offers 20 miles of scenic hiking, biking and equestrian trails, flat water canoeing, hunting, picnicking, as well as a recycled tire playground for children. The park offers activities and special events on a seasonal basis. Activities include day camps, canoe trips, Scales & Tales presentations and displays, and Challenge Course programs. Each weekend, Memorial Day through Labor Day, park staff offer a number of free family activities. Check out flyers posted throughout the park or call the park office for more details.Upcoming Events
- Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Saturday, March 22nd (Free) - Over 4,000 plastic and boiled eggs are hidden with special prize eggs that are marked, so look closely in and on your eggs! Open to children under the age of 10. This event will start at 1 p.m. sharp in the Cherry Lane picnic area.
- Birds of Prey Photo Shoot, Saturday, May 10th ($10/photographer, spectators are free) - Come photograph the Scales & Tales hawks, falcons, owls and a special guest - a bald eagle - in their natural surroundings. The event will run from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. The exact location within the park to be announced (signs will be posted).
- Open Rock Wall, Saturday, May 24th ($5/climber) - Take part in the first of Tuckahoe's Open Rock Climbing session this season. Open to both experienced climbers looking to practice and those who have never climbed before. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The rock wall will be open from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
- Guided Canoe Trip, Sunday, May 25th ($6/adults, $4/youth ages 14 and under) - Join the park staff for an entertaining and educational canoe trip up Tuckahoe Creek. The trip will depart from the boathouse at 6 p.m. Reservations are required (call the park office).
- Annual Tuckahoe Triathlon, Saturday, June 7th ($15/advance registration or $20/day of event) - Designed for serious athletes and amateurs alike, this annual event consists of a 2-mile run, 10-mile bike and 1-mile canoe course. Categories for individuals, couples and parent-child with prizes in each. Come out and enjoy a late spring morning in the park, competing or cheering on participants! Maryland Conservation Corps
- Camping: The park offers a family camping area with 51 sites, 33 with electric hookups, and a central bathhouse with showers and toilet facilities. Each site is equipped with a camping pad, picnic table and fire ring. No water hook-ups are available, but potable water is conveniently located around each loop. A dump station is available for trailer use. Pets are allowed in the campground, but must remain on a leash at all times. - Youth Group Camping: The park also offers a youth group camping area with four sites, each site accommodating up to 30 people. Click here for available youth group programs and activities.
- Cabins: Four camper cabins are available for rent through the statewide reservation system. Each cabin sleeps four and is equipped with ceiling fan, electricity, air conditioning, grill, fire ring and table.
- Picnicking/Shelters: The park has two picnic areas, each offering shaded sites with picnic tables, charcoal grills, playground equipment and horseshoe pits. The Lake and Cherry Lane Area Pavilions, with a capacity of 80 persons, can be rented through the statewide reservation system.
- Arboretum: The Adkins Arboretum encompasses 500 acres of park land and almost three miles of surfaced walkways leading through the tagged native species of trees and shrubs.
- Pets: Pets are allowed in the family camping area and most of the park, except the lake picnic area, as long as they remain on a leash. Call the park for details.
- Fishing and Boating: The park has a 60-acre lake with fishing and boating opportunities on 20 acres of open water. The remaining acres are flooded woodland. A launch ramp is available for boaters. Gasoline motor use is prohibited. Canoeing at Tuckahoe is a popular activity on both the lake and the creek because of the park's abundant wildlife. It is common for visitors to enjoy watching bald eagles, ospreys and great blue herons. Beavers and muskrats have surprised visitors by swimming past their canoes. Tuckahoe is full of pockets of secluded beauty, some only accessible by canoe. Canoes, kayaks and paddle boats can be rented for use on the lake above the dam for a daily fee (April- October). Check with park personnel for current fees for canoe rentals and park guided trips.
- Multi-use Trails: Tuckahoe State Park boasts excellent hiking, biking and equestrian opportunities. Trails that wander through the park include the Tuckahoe Valley Trail, a self-guided Natural Trail, the Physical Fitness Trail and the Lake Trail. - Mountain Bike, Kayak, Paddleboat and Canoe Rentals: Tuckahoe offers mountain bikes, kayaks, paddleboats and canoes for rent at the park during the spring, summer and fall. Contact the park for current service charges, available days and times.
Adventure Day Camps
Camps begin in late June and run through mid-August for youth ages 7-14. Join trained park staff as they promote safety and enjoyment in the beautiful outdoors. Each camp runs for two days from 9:00-11:30 a.m. Campers will receive a t-shirt, snacks, drinks and other goodies. All necessary equipment and supplies are provided. Sessions will be offered in - archery, rock climbing, advanced rock climbing, nature nerds, canoeing & fishing, treasure quests and mountain biking. Click here for more information and registration.

Tuckahoe State Park is supported by a Maryland Conservation Corps Program. The Maryland Conservation Corps (MCC) is an AmeriCorps program that engages young adults, ages 17-25, who want to dedicate a year of service to natural resource conservation. Over a ten to 11-month period, MCC members work as crews to complete 1,700 hours of service. Conservation service activities include: trail maintenance, environmental education, stream & wetland restoration, park facility improvements, invasive species removal and Bay grass planting. Extensive member training is provided, including: First Responder certification, Wildland Fire Fighting certification, Search and Rescue certification, Park Operations, Environmental Education and Interpretation, Chainsaw Safety, Leave No Trace and Canoe Trip Leading.No minimum qualifications are required other than transportation to the designated job site and a desire to serve. Low-cost State Housing is available at certain crew sites. Benefits include a living allowance of $7.00/hour, health care benefits, child care assistance (if eligible) and a $4,725 education scholarship award for those members that complete $1,700 hours of service. MCC employs a Zero Tolerance Policy for any member who uses alcohol or illegal drugs while attending an MCC project, training or event.

Directions - Tuckahoe State Park is located approximately 35 miles east of the Bay Bridge, just off MD Rt. 404, on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Travel east on Rt. 50/301 across the Bay Bridge. Rt. 50/301 splits, bear to the right on Rt. 50. Make a left at the intersection of Rt. 50 and Rt. 404. Go approximately 8 miles until you come to the intersection of Rt. 404 and Rt. 480. Make a left on Rt. 480. To your immediate left take Eveland Road. Once on Eveland Road follow directional signs to area of choice.
