Assateague State Park offers a wide variety of interpretive programs for visitors of all ages! See below for some of the highlights, but don’t forget to check the weekly program schedule posted at the Ranger Station and on campground bulletin boards when you arrive at Assateague.

Come in and explore our displays and exhibits- each year something new to see, learn about, and discover. Spend time getting a close-up look at our aquariums featuring many of the fascinating critters that inhabit the waters around Assateague such as horseshoe crabs, whelks, fish, and seahorses. Don’t forget to peek in on our terrestrial friends too, the corn snake and screech owl. There’s something for everyone, a must-see for our Assateague visitors!

Nature Center Open Hours
May 1st – June 6th- Nature Center open Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

June 12th- September 6th- Nature Center open daily from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and selected evening hours (check program list posted at park office for weekly schedule)

September 11th- September 26th- Nature Center open Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Bayside Canoe & Kayak Tours - join our naturalist staff for a paddle on the Sinepuxent Bay

Assateague “Stampede” and Scrapbooking - Arts & Crafts program creating your own picture postcards and scrapbook pages using nature- themed stamps

Beginner Yoga - start your day with relaxing yoga on the beach

Cool Island Treats - make your own ice cream, no electricity required

Bayside Clamming - grab a rake, dip your toes in the bay and you might just catch your dinner

Junior Rangers - a Maryland State Park favorite

Littlest Rangers - for the younger kids, each session featuring a story and craft project

Sand Castle Building Challenge - create a masterpiece at your spot on the beach

Surf Fishing - try your hand at this ocean-side favorite activity

If you are visiting our Day Use beach, don’t miss our newest exhibit area, the Assateague Nature Nook, located along the entrance boardwalk. Programs offered daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day featuring a sampling of our Nature Center exhibits, live animals, fascinating artifacts, and of course our naturalist staff to answer your questions.
