Assateague Bunny Hop - A Celebration of Spring

Ages 10 and under
Join us as we hop down the bunny trail at Assateague State Park. "BYOB" - Bring your own basket and a keen eye as you search for eggs hideen at our State Park Marina. Groups will include the Tiny Tots, Little Tikes and Bunny Hoppers (grouped by age) with plenty of goodies for all to find. We'll also have Bunny Basket crafts, face painting, special cards for soldiers and other great games. If you are feeling lucky, join our raffle for a fabulous boogie board, or give a guess at the jelly bean jar. Drawings will be held at the end of the event. Girl Scouts and their leaders are invited to participate in a campfire sing-a-long at Assateague State Park. All participants are asked to bring a chair, a flashlight, a piece or two of firewood, and one canned/non-perishable food item per person. Dress warmly! Assateague State Park serves as host for the annual March of Dimes WalkAmerica. You can help save babies from being born premature by joining the millions of people across the nation who come together for WalkAmerica each year. Assateague State Park and Assateague Mobile Sport Fishermen’s Association (AMSA) will be co-sponsoring a fishing derby for kids 16 and under. Members from AMSA will be on hand to instruct participants in proper fishing methods for the surf. Other demonstrations include casting for accuracy, surf rescue demonstrations and nature programs. Lunch will be provided by AMSA. Limited equipment is available; please bring personal equipment if possible. Registration is at Assateague State Park day use boardwalk (no pre-registration is required). See the finest in art accessories that Mother Nature has given us. Join our special guest, local glass bead artist Vicki Todd of Bead Creation Station, as she demonstrates the process of making Venetian glass beads. See an in-depth demonstration, examples of art projects, and the tools and equipment used in bead and jewelry making. Then, learn jewelry knotting techniques and make a beautiful Assateague State Park keepsake creation of your own using hand-made glass beads. Service charge applies per participant. Come celebrate with us at the Assateague State Park Nature Center for a summer carnival. Activities will include bounce-house and other games, crafts, nature programs, raffles, as well as great food. Proceeds from this fund raising event will benefit the Assateague State Park Nature Center and Interpretive Programs. Join us as we transform our Day Use beach into an outdoor concert venue when Assateague State Park will host a nature-themed concert featuring the talents of “Two of a Kind”. This award-winning duo, David and Jenny Heitler-Klevans, are known nationally for their songs about wildlife, habitat, and good environmental stewardship. Bring along a beach chair or blanket to this free event and enjoy an evening of songs, laughter and family entertainment- “making a difference, one song at a time!” Co-sponsored by Friends of Assateague State Park. If you've ever wondered how ceramic items are made, how does a kiln work, or how clay is formed into useful objects, we'll answer these questions and more in an arts and crafts workshop. Explore the age-old process of ceramic hand-building, find out about the methods used by American Indians, and create a ceramic tile project of your own. Assateague State Park serves as the location for this popular festival. Join us for an array of exhibits, live animal programs, Discovery Boat rides, kite flying, sand castle building demonstrations and more. Learn about what visitors and residents can do to protect the coastal bays and visit our touch tanks to get a close encounter with some of the island’s fascinating inhabitants.
