Fort Frederick State Park Information

Location:
Fort Frederick State Park is located in the Cumberland Valley, 18 miles west of Hagerstown and one mile south of I-70 near Big Pool (Rt. 56, Exit 12). The park is 88 miles from Baltimore and 81 miles from Washington, D.C.

Fort Frederick State Park is located in Washington County, off Route 70 Exit 12 (Big Pool). Travel one mile east on State Route 56 to the park's entrance.​

Hours of Operation:
8 a.m. to sunset, April-October
10 a.m. to sunset, November-March​​

Hunting Policy:
  • Archery Hunting at Fort Frederick State Park is by reservation only. To reserve a permit hunters must contact the park office at 301-842-2155, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm, at least two (2) weeks before the desired hunting date. Permit is good for a week. Each week is limited to five (5) hunters. Hunting is allowed Monday through Saturday. No hunting is allowed on Sundays. Reservations may be made after the third Wednesday in August.

Pet Policy:
​Pets are allowed in Fort Frederick State Park in the following areas:
  • Pets are allowed in all day-use areas except the fort
  • Pets are allowed in campground
  • Pets are allowed in picnic area
