Dispose of pet waste properly, change diapers away from the waters’ edge to keep the water clean for swimmers and marine life and use an approved marina pump-out station for boat waste disposal. Get Involved with Summer Flounder Management
Anglers fishing over the 4th of July weekend are encouraged to fill out the Maryland Volunteer Angler Summer Founder Survey. The Survey is designed to obtain recreational harvest and release data that are not otherwise available to MD DNR. Simply by submitting your fishing trip information when targeting summer flounder, you can become an active participant in summer flounder management. These data are used to perform minimum size analysis, as a comparison to the federal harvest data, and much more! To learn more or to participate in the survey...

Grove Farm Available for Curatorship
The Grove Farm in Cecil County is becoming available for restoration under the Maryland Resident-Curatorship Program, which secures private funding and labor for the preservation of historic properties. An open house will be held for interested curators on Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Click here for full press release.

Internet-Based Hunter Education Course For Students 14 or Over Now Available
First time hunters now have another option for completing the Maryland Hunter Education requirements. Effective July 1, Maryland will offer an internet-based course for students 14 or over. 250 other classes will continue to be available throughout the year for all students, regardless of age. The internet-based portion of the course is completed when the student passes a test and is provided with a voucher to attend a Maryland Hunter Education Field Day. There are presently 20 Field Days scheduled throughout the State this fall. Satisfactory completion of the field day will give the student the certification necessary to purchase a hunting license in Maryland or any other state in the country. For additional information...

Deep Creek Lake State Park Hosts 9th Annual Art in the Park July 12 & 13
Deep Creek Lake State Park’s Discovery Center will host over 40 artists and their original artwork at the 9th Annual Art in the Park on July 12 and 13. The free event features Dixieland music, food and naturalist programs. “Art in the Park is an event for the whole family to enjoy,” said Fred Schaich, President of the Western Garrett County State Park Volunteers, Inc. (WGCSPVI). “Hands-on activities and delicious food will delight children and parents alike. The Maryland Park Service is proud to offer programs that can bring family, fun and education together.” Read more information...
