Bowhunting on Liberty and Prettyboy Reservoirs

Bowhunter Registration and final date to register have been eliminated.
Hunters are still required to complete the Bowhunter Permit Registration
found in the Guide to Hunting & Trapping in Maryland or may print and complete the
form found online. The registration permit must be in your possession while
hunting on these areas. All other rules for bowhunting on Liberty and
Prettyboy Reservoirs remain in effect. See Bowhunting at Liberty and Prettyboy Reservoirs.
Hunting License Exemption For Children and Grandchildren of Landowners
Legislation passed during the 2007 session of the General
Assembly modified State law related to who can hunt on a landowner’s
property without a hunting license, bow stamp, or muzzleloader stamp.
Effective July 1, 2007, the landowner’s adult (age 16 or older) children and
grandchildren and the spouses of the children and grandchildren, are exempt
from the hunting license, bow stamp and muzzleloader stamp requirement if
the child, grandchild, or their spouse: (1) lives on the property; (2) has
worked on the property for at least 30 days during the preceding 12-months,
or (3) manages the property. Each person must individually qualify
under these criteria. See Licenses,

Preference Point System for Bear Hunting Applicants
DNR will implement a Preference Point System for bear hunting
permit applicants. Preference points will provide additional entries in
future drawings for those not selected in a current drawing. See
Forest Game Regulations.
Regulated Shooting Area Carcass Handling
There are new requirements for the handling of captive raised mallard ducks for Regulated Shooting Areas. See
Migratory Game Bird Regulations.
Special Hunting Methods for Resident Canada Geese
during September Seasons Only
Shotguns capable of holding more than three shells may be used
to take Resident Canada geese.
Shooting hours for Resident Canada geese are from
one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.
Sunday Hunting
Legislation passed during the 2007 session of the General
Assembly now allows for additional Sunday deer hunting on private lands.
St. Mary’s, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester Counties now have deer bow
hunting on private land only on Sundays October 14, October 21, October 28,
November 4, and November 11, 2007. See Deer Management Region B .
Also, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester Counties now have
sika deer bow hunting on private land only on these dates; and have firearms
hunting for both white-tailed and sika deer on Sunday November 25, 2007 on
private lands only. See Sika Deer

Trapper Education
Effective August 1, 2007, any person who is trapping or
attempting to trap furbearers under the authority of a Furbearer Permit must
first obtain a certificate of trapper education, except that the certificate
is not required if the person held a Furbearer Permit during the 2006-07
trapping season (prior to August 1, 2007). Trapper Education Requirement.
