Main_Content
17.0 miles one way- difficult - hiking only
Address:
Suggested start at St. John’s Rock trail head. This trail travels along St. John’s Rock on the north to the Savage River Reservoir on the South ending at the White Water campsites. A rugged trail that generally runs along the ridgeline.
This trail is popular due to the upland forests of oak and hickory, old pine farmsteads and rocky terrains blanketed by wild azalea and rhododendron. Remnants of an old fire tower still sit in an area called High Rock. There is no motorized propulsion permitted on this trail.
Please obtain a backpack camping permit from the Savage River State Forest headquarters, kiosk, or print from the link to mail in advance.
Note: Hikers need to bring plenty of water as there are limited reliable water sources along this trail.
