Maryland 2019 Arbor Day Poster Contest

A tree in the middle with the leaves that look like dancing people.The Maryland Forest Service, in partnership with the Maryland Forest Conservancy District Boards, is sponsoring a “Poster Contest” for 5th grade classes throughout the State of Maryland. The theme for the poster is: Trees Are Terrific….and Forests Are Too!

5th Grade Poster Contest Rules

The State of Maryland is offering the following prizes: to top statewide level winners; 1st prize (a tree planting at your school with 15 trees), 2nd prize (a tree planting at your school with 10 trees) and 3rd prize (a tree planting at your school with 5 trees).

All posters are due to the county’s MD Forest Service Office no later than 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019. The address for your local office is attached listed by county or can be found here: dnr.maryland.gov/forests/Pages/county-map.aspx. Posters will be judged on a county level and the winner will be submitted to the Maryland Urban and Community Forestry Committee (MUCFC) to compete at the statewide level.

Contest rules can be found here. There is also an activity guide that can be used to assist teachers in tying together curriculum lessons and the contest theme. Please note that a Release Form must be filled out and attached to the back of every poster entry.

Winners’ teachers will be notified directly by March 20, 2019.
