2008 Spring Trout Stocking Information
Up-To-Date Information:
 The State Forest Service had to close the road into the Lost Land Run Area of the Potomac-Garrett State Forest. This closure is due to the collapse of a large culvert that carries one of the main tributaries of Lost Land Run, (near the lime doser.) The Forest Service is trying to work out some way to reopen the road, as this is a very popular Potomac river fishing access.
We will keep you posted as the Forest Service trys to restore this important river access.
**Added April 17- The Carrol Co Bureau of Utilities has lifted the ban on water contact on the Patapsco River that was imposed earlier this week due to a sewage line break. All stocking will be done by the end of today and the stream will open to fishing on Saturday as scheduled.
1. Pine Lake (5 trout/day and with a closure No. 2) in Montgomery County will not be stocked this spring season due to an ongoing dredging/riser repair construction project. Some of the trout dedicated to Pine Lake will be put in Kings Pond, a newly renovated pond in Clarksburg, Maryland. Freshwater Fisheries staff stocked 250 trout into Kings Pond, the pond is currently designated as a put-and-take water, therefore, the creel limit for Kings pond is two trout/angler/day. Trout stocking will resume next year in Pine Lake following renovations. Access to Kings Pond is from Route 121 (Clarksburg Road) approximately 1/3 mile east of the intersection of Route 355 and Route 121.
2. The Savage Reservoir - The Savage River Reservoir is still drawn down in order to perform necessary repairs on the dam’s release gates. The scope of work and the duration of the repair have not yet been determined, however we should know what to expect by the end of this month. Until then, trout stocking has been postponed in the Savage Reservoir. The 4,000 trout that were designated for the reservoir may be stocked at a later date if the reservoir refills this spring. Otherwise these trout will be stocked in nearby stocked trout waters.

For information regarding the fall stocking please check the Fisheries Service homepage for updated information - usually posted the first or second week of October, after the stocking has begun. This spring schedule is the full listing of all locations along with closure schedules.

Maryland Trout Fishing Underway
Maryland anglers can enjoy trout fishing in many area waters right now. MDNR has already done some early season stocking with more to come soon, and the 2008 stocking schedule is now available. Be sure to check out the new maps linked directly to the table. Not only do the maps provide directions to stocked locations across the state but they also provide fishing regulations and other useful information. You can also get stocking up-dates at 1-800-688-3467.
Stocking levels will be increased from 2007. However the continued closure of several hatchery facilities due to whirling disease but will result in about 15% fewer than 2006.

The DNR trout stocking program is funded entirely by the sale of freshwater fishing licenses, trout stamps and Federal Sportfish Restoration Program (Wallop-Breaux) funds which are generated by anglers and boaters’ tax dollars.
