John Slike | 7 lbs., 14 oz. | 9/08/2002 | Angler John Slike of Towson, Maryland landed a State record Atlantic spadefish on September 8, 2002. The fish weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 21 inches with a girth of 20 inches. This exceeds the previous State record of 7 pounds, 12.8 ounces set on September 3, 2000 by 1.2 ounces. Slike was fishing the African Queen wreck aboard the headboat Judith M out of Bahia Marina. Tackle consisted of 30-pound test line and squid for bait. |

Bill Jacobs | 7 lbs., 12.8 oz. | 9/03/2000 | Bill Jacobs of New York City established the first Atlantic spadefish State record. Jacobs was fishing on the charter boat "Master" out of Ocean City, Maryland with Captain Ben Franklin at Winter Quarter Shoal using a piece of squid for bait when he caught the 7 pound 12.8 ounce spadefish on September 3, 2000. The spadefish measured 20.375 inches and had a girth of 21.5 inches. |
